  • 450 milliliter Water
  • 200 gram Dates

Step-by-step method

At a glance

Making homemade date syrup is incredibly straightforward—you're just soaking dates in water, then blending and straining them into a smooth, naturally sweet syrup. The main thing to keep in mind is that the dates need about 4 hours to plump up, so a bit of patience is required, but the actual hands-on work is minimal. Once you've got this golden syrup ready, you can drizzle it over porridge, chia puddings, or use it to sweeten all sorts of desserts.

  1. 1/5

    Soak the dates

Soak the pitted dates in water (skins on) and gently mash them with your hands to help them soak up more water. Leave to sit for about 4 hours.

About this recipe

I don't know a simpler recipe than this. All you need is dates, water and a hand blender. I add it to my morning porridge with fruit, to chia puddings, or you can use it to sweeten pretty much any dessert.
