Gnocchi with Wild Garlic and Ham

Step-by-step method

Let’s cook

At a glance

This quick weeknight gnocchi comes together in just 13 minutes—you're frying up shallots and ham, tossing in store-bought gnocchi until crispy, and finishing with a creamy sauce and fresh wild garlic. The only slightly tricky bit is getting the gnocchi nicely browned before you add the cream, but the whole thing's a total breeze.

  1. 1/3

    Fry the shallot and ham

Get out a large non-stick frying pan. Melt some butter in it and fry the finely chopped shallot. Add the diced ham and fry together for two minutes.

  2. 2/3

    Gnocchi and cream

Tip in the gnocchi and fry until they're partly crisp. Pour in the cream and season with salt and pepper. Stir well.

Finish with wild garlic and cheese

Finally, with the heat off, stir in the finely chopped wild garlic. The amount is up to your taste. Serve immediately. If you like, sprinkle a little cheese on top – in that case, I'd recommend a hard cheese like Gran Moravia.

About this recipe

One of those brilliant recipes for us busy working mums. You can always keep a batch of homemade gnocchi in the freezer, ready to go – they're not too fiddly to make. But if you pick up good ready-made chilled gnocchi from the shop, you can have lunch on the table in ten to fifteen minutes. No exaggeration. And that's exactly what you need on a busy weekday, isn't it?
