Deliciously with Ella – Oat Milk

Step-by-step method

Let’s cook

At a glance

You're making creamy homemade oat milk in just 36 minutes—it's easier than you'd think. The key is soaking and rinsing the oats first, then blending them with water until smooth and straining through a cloth to get that silky liquid. If you like it sweet, a quick blend with honey finishes it off perfectly.

  1. 1/3

    Soak the oats, then rinse

Soak the oats in cold water for half an hour. After that, drain the oats, rinse them well and let them drain again.

  2. 2/3

    Blend

Put the oats into a powerful blender and add 900 ml of fresh water. Blend for half a minute, until the mixture turns creamy and the oats are finely broken down.

  3. 3/3

    Squeeze through a cloth

Strain the blended mixture through a fine sieve or a piece of cloth. Squeeze out all the liquid and pour it into a jar or bottle for storing the oat milk in the fridge. If you like, you can sweeten it with a sweetener of your choice and blend it briefly again.

About this recipe

A beautiful book full of healthy recipes. Give your cooking a fresh, healthy makeover with Ella Woodward, the British food blogger. The first thing I tried from the book was oat “milk”. I'd been wanting to make it at home for ages and knew there was nothing tricky about it – I just needed the right nudge. And that's exactly what the opening lines of this lovely cookbook gave me.
