Tuna Steak with Potatoes and Green Asparagus

Step-by-step method

Let’s cook

At a glance

This quick lunch comes together in just 11 minutes, with boiled potatoes taking the longest while tuna and asparagus need only a few minutes in the pan. The key is keeping the tuna juicy by searing it fast on a hot griddle, making this a perfect weeknight meal for busy schedules.

  1. 1/4

    Season the tuna

Season the tuna steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.

  2. 2/4

    Prepare the asparagus

Trim off the dry ends from the bottom of the green asparagus. Melt some butter in a pan and add the asparagus. Season with salt and pepper, and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar. Cook gently, turning the asparagus occasionally. 3 to 4 minutes is enough.

  3. 3/4

    Sear the tuna

Place the tuna steaks onto a hot griddle pan. Grill for one minute, or up to a minute and a half, on each side. The centre should stay juicy - tuna only needs a very short time to cook through completely, and that's not what you want.

About this recipe

A simple lunch ready in just a few minutes, yet with the most delicious ingredients on your plate. In today's lunch idea, boiling the potatoes takes the longest. Both the green asparagus and the tuna only need a few minutes in the pan, since long cooking doesn't do them any favours - quite the opposite. So once again, this is my favourite kind of "cooking for busy moms."
