Beef Cheeks in Red Wine with Vegetables

Step-by-step method

Let’s cook

At a glance

This is a delicious braised beef cheek dish that requires some patience but rewards you with incredibly tender, fall-apart meat. You'll sear the cheeks, add vegetables and red wine, then let everything braise for about 3 hours while you relax. The final touches involve reducing the sauce and preparing simple sides like mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables.

  1. 1/5

    Sear the meat

Heat some oil in a large pan and sear the salted and peppered beef cheeks until the meat is well browned on all sides.

Pour in the wine and stock and braise until tender. Depending on the size of the cheeks, this takes about 3 hours. The cheeks are done when they're falling apart.

About this recipe

I remember exactly when I first heard about beef cheeks. It was on my favorite show, Hell's Kitchen – well, it's not really my favorite anymore (I still love the old seasons, but not the new ones at all), but beef cheeks are something we love just as much as ever. You simply never get tired of them. Anyone who's tried them and fallen for them knows exactly what I mean. I'm always so happy when I manage to get hold of some. Luckily, that's not too hard where we live – the butcher nearest to us can order them in for us. Hooray!
