Edible Sparkle Lustre Colour – Gold

Two ways to get the look

You've got two main options, depending on how intense an effect you're after. For a soft, satin shimmer, use a dry, soft brush to dust the powder straight onto set buttercream, chocolate or modelling paste. If you're after a rich, opaque metallic finish, mix a little powder with a few drops of food-grade alcohol or rejuvenator spirit. This creates your own liquid colour, perfect for painting precise lines, lettering or entire shimmering surfaces.

British quality in every grain

Sugarflair is one of the industry's most respected names, known for the purity and fine milling of its edible powders. This product meets food colouring standards and holds kosher certification. Each bottle contains 4 grams of ultra-fine powder that won't clump or streak on the surface — instead, it spreads into a smooth, even layer. What's more, the colour is completely tasteless and odourless, so it won't affect the flavour of your buttercream or sponge.

Where gold shimmer works best

Gold is a classic that never disappoints — perfect for wedding and celebration cakes, Christmas and New Year's Eve bakes, and birthday desserts where you want that real "wow" factor. It looks fantastic against a dark chocolate backdrop, on white fondant, or over creamy tones. And since just a few strokes go a long way, you can use it to cover entire shimmering surfaces or simply highlight a single detail, like the edge of a leaf or tiny sugar pearls.

Use and storage

Store the powder somewhere dry, at room temperature and ideally away from light, to keep the pigments at their most vibrant. Screw the lid on tightly after every use — the fine powder is very light and easily stirs up into the air when handled. If mixing the colour with alcohol, prepare only a small amount in a dish at a time and use it straight away. This avoids unnecessary drying out and waste, since the powder is highly concentrated and goes a long way.
