At a glance
We'll start with a yeasted dough made from a starter, which needs time for two rises, but the process itself is simple and unhurried. The dough is then filled with strawberries, shaped into dumplings, and briefly boiled until they float to the top. Finish with your favourite sweet toppings.

Warm the milk
Warm the milk in a pot until just lukewarm. Stir in the sugar and crumble in the yeast. Leave the starter to rise somewhere warm, and work with it once bubbles appear on the surface.

Make a smooth, non-sticky dough
Mix the flour with a pinch of salt and pour in the starter. Add the egg. Knead by hand, in a stand mixer, or in a bread maker until you have a smooth, non-sticky dough. Let it rise for an hour somewhere warm, or in the bread maker.

Roll out balls
Now you have two ways to work with the dough. Either roll out the whole batch (or half of it) into a sheet and cut out rounds using a glass. Place fruit on each round, wrap it in the dough, seal it well, and roll it in your hands into a neat ball.
