Easy Homemade Butterscotch Sauce
· 9 servings
Making the caramel base
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the dark brown sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla sugar. Stir for about 1–2 minutes, until everything comes together into a smooth, fragrant paste.
Smoothing it out with cream
Carefully and while stirring constantly, slowly pour in the whipping cream. Watch out, the mixture may bubble up a little! Lower the heat and cook for another 3–4 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
Finishing and getting the right consistency
Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in a pinch of salt. For a more pronounced salted caramel flavor, feel free to add a bit more. Let it cool - it will thicken beautifully into its final consistency as it cools.
