How to get the darkest shade?

Black pigment needs a little time to fully develop. If you're colouring buttercream or fondant, we recommend mixing the colour in a few hours (or even a day) ahead. The shade settles beautifully in the fridge and deepens further. Thanks to ProGel's high concentration, you'll also need less colour overall, so your buttercream stays stable and tasty.

Where can you use black?

Black is the foundation of modern, elegant designs — it's perfect for outlines and lettering when writing on cakes or drawing fine details, ideal for Halloween baking and the spookiest (yet tastiest) cupcakes, and when paired with metallic colours it makes the perfect backdrop for gold or silver accents to really pop. Tip: for a truly black sponge, add a bit of good-quality black cocoa to the gel colour — the result is absolutely stunning.

No aftertaste

Black colourings sometimes turn buttercream slightly bitter. With ProGel, you don't need to worry. It's formulated to stay neutral even at high intensity. It's 100% edible, vegetarian-friendly, and gluten-free. Plus, thanks to the practical resealable tube, your colour stays fresh and your hands (mostly) clean.
