Pita Bread with Meatballs and Vegetables

·
4 servings
  1. Prepare the onion and meat

Finely chop the onion and sauté it in a little butter until golden. Put the meat into a large bowl.

  2. Season, mix and chill

Add the sautéed onion, egg, sauce, mustard, salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly, ideally with your hands, until all the ingredients are well combined. Let the mixture rest in the fridge for about an hour.

  3. Shape the meatballs

Shape the rested mixture into balls. Fry them in hot oil, or bake them in the oven on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 200°C for about half an hour, depending on the size of the meatballs. Once baked, they should be nicely browned.

  4. Grill the peppers

Place the sliced peppers on a griddle pan and let them get nice char marks.

  5. Cut the pita into a pocket

Warm the pita bread in the microwave or a regular oven. Cut it open like a pocket, but don't slice all the way through – this makes the filled pita much easier to eat.

  6. Choose your favourite dressing

Spread the inside with your dressing of choice – salad dressing, steak mustard, or a homemade sauce made from mayonnaise, garlic and herbs. It's really down to your own taste.

  7. Prepare the salad mix

Season the washed salad leaves with lemon juice, oil, salt and pepper. Let it sit for a few minutes.

  8. Fill the pita

Fill the pita bread with the salad, top with pieces of grilled peppers, cherry tomatoes and finally the meatballs.

  9. You're done!

    Enjoy your meal!
