4 servings
  1. Slice the potatoes

    Slice the potatoes

Peel the potatoes, wash them and pat dry. Slice into very thin slices. You can use the slicing attachment on a food processor or a hand-held mandoline, similar to the one shown in the photo. The slices should be thin and even.

  2. Grate the cheese

    Grate the cheese

Put the potatoes into a large bowl and grate the cheese straight over them, coarsely. Season with salt and pepper.

  3. Pour in the cream

    Pour in the cream

Pour in the cream and mix thoroughly, so that every potato slice is coated in cream.

  4. Add the butter

    Add the butter

Grease a baking dish with butter and tip in the potato, cheese and cream mixture. Level it out and dot the top with slices of butter.

  5. Bake it

If you like, sprinkle a little extra cheese over the top. Bake in an oven preheated to 200°C.

  6. Let it turn golden

    Let it turn golden

Bake for about an hour, until the top turns golden. You can test if it's ready by piercing a slice of potato somewhere in the middle to check it's soft. Serve just as it is, with a salad, or as a side to your main course.

  7. You're done!

    Enjoy your meal!
